Hi everyone, does anyone know much about the proposal to reduce the number
of Special Interest Groups to 16 by clustering them?
I believe that CILIP Council is voting on this proposal on Thursday 8th
but very few people seem to know about it.
I think the groups themselves received a document about the clustering
proposal last Monday, giving very little time to discuss and respond.
However the membership as a whole doesn't appear to have been told
anything about it.
The word "cluster" seems to avoid the concept of "merging" but if you're
reducing the number of groups because of problems with funding or number
of active members, then surely it must be to all intents and purposes a
set of mergers or take-overs.
I can't believe that CILIP Council are going to decide on something like
this without giving the membership at large a chance to comment. SIGs are
the way that most CILIP members engage with their professional body. There
was a consultation in the Spring, but now that proposals are being voted
on there should be more publicity. I'm hoping I've misunderstood, so if
anyone knows more please enlighten me.
Many thanks,
Laura
