It seems that there are some questions arising from these opinions.
Should CILIP maintain a political stance on behalf of Librarians and represent that in all its activities?
Or should CILIP support Librarians in the political climate that influences their work at the time?
Are these two positions mutually exclusive?
I don't have the answers, but I'd love to hear yours!

I would respond: No, but it is coming from one specific point of view.
Looking at the first two points -

In the private sector, this can be very helpful. Here at TWI we have been
lucky enough to win such funding to allow us to catalogue our archive, house
it appropriately and make it available to everyone.

We are actively engaged in reviewing the possibility of expanding the
outsourcing of the abstracting task for our bibliographic database, so such
a book would be highly relevant.
