......apologies for cross posting..........

As the summer holidays begin to draw to a close please take note of the
exciting range of courses that TFPL are offering in September 05. Please
follow our website link to find out more details www.tfpl.com

Introduction to EU
Introduction to the European Union is a one day course which will introduce
to you the European Union and the key information sources on the web for
following its activities. This will include legislation and other
policy-making information, keeping up-to-date, policy information, contact
information and bibliographical sources. Hands-on time will be allocated to
allow you to examine the sources demonstrated. While primarily free access
websites will be featured there will also be a round-up of the commercial
products available in this area. A structured series of handouts with
substantial hyperlinks will be provided in both print and electronic
formats.

Legal risks and information management
Managing legal risk is an increasingly important aspect of modern
information work. This one day course will help avoid the danger of
expensive litigation and damage to reputation arising from the misuse of
information content and associated technologies. The programme draws
together the different areas of law relevant to this subject and examines
them in the context of those situations and activities that commonly create
legal risk. The emphasis is very much on practical information management
with legal principles and rules being illustrated though the use of examples
and cases. The intention is to enable information professionals to assess
potential hazards and to introduce preventative policies and procedures.

Return on investment
Added value and Business Case for libraries and information services.
Demonstrating and communicating the value and impact for your organisations
This one-day course for knowledge and information managers deals in
pragmatic and clear ways the issues of organisational benefits around
information expressed in Business Cases, Intangible Value, Return on
Investment and the activities and responsibilities connected with these
topics. Now more than ever it is vital for information services to show in
a convincing and reliable way the clear and measured benefits of its efforts
in the core processes and knowledge assets of the organisation. Investments
in information technology like intranets, portals and search technology etc.
and expectations from knowledge management and intellectual capital make the
need for clear understanding of results even more important. You will learn
how to do the research within your organisation, how to present your
projected results to a board of directors and how to put a plan of action
together. At the end of the course participants will take away a first draft
of a plan of action for their own organisation.

Internet search engines
This is a companion course to 'Advanced Tools for the Internet Searcher' and
it focuses exclusively on Internet Search Engines. Rather than having a
smaller number of search engines on the Internet there are more and more of
them available, all with their own particular strengths and weaknesses. In
order to get the most out of the Internet it is becoming increasingly
necessary to have a good in-depth understanding of how these work and which
one(s) to use in any given circumstance. Not only will participants be able
to spend time looking in detail at them, the course will also keep them up
to date on what is happening in the field so they can make an informed
decision on the best ways to obtain the information they require using
search engines.

Introduction to investment management
Investment management is an increasingly important part of all our lives and
this is a new course that perhaps every working person in the country ought
to attend at some point in their early career !!! All the indications are
that the more and the earlier we all understand about the part of our
finances designated for our savings and ultimately retirement, the easier
that phase of our lives will be.
But, who gives us the basic training and understanding of these concepts?
Here's that start; a new basic level one day course presenting a clear and
understandable introduction to investment management.
