Hello,
Looks like a good list - had never heard of the New Health Network. Another
apparently useful resource, that hundreds of NHS organisations have
subscribed to, is the knowledge exchange www.theknowledgexchange.co.uk.
It's a bit like LIS-Medical for NHS managers - you choose the categories
you're interested in. Each organisation has to pay a subscription fee.
best wishes

Subject: Re: Best practice in locating what other PCTs are
doing/protocols
Hello Michelle
I get asked this type of question quite a lot as my service supports PCT
managers, esp. in public health and commissioning. Can be tricky as this
sort of information - when it is published! - tends to be dispersed all over
the place. PCT protocols, pathways, action plans and other similar
documents are often found on individual PCT websites. I have had most
success finding these using the Google Advanced search, restricting the
search to .nhs.uk (domain field) then trying out a variety of keywords. You
may need to include PCT/primary care if you are getting lots of acute stuff.
Here are some other sources you might find useful:
NeLH database of protocols and care pathways -
http://libraries.nelh.nhs.uk/pathways/
NeLH Defining Good Practice -
http://www.nelh.nhs.uk/quality/Defining_good_practice.asp
DH Good Practice database -
http://www.info.doh.gov.uk/doh/goodprac.nsf/dbSearch1?ReadForm
NHS Scotland Good practice in action -
http://www.show.scot.nhs.uk/sehd/goodpracticeinaction/
NHS Modernisation - http://www.wise.nhs.uk/cmswise/default.htm
Public Health Excellence at NICE - http://www.publichealth.nice.org.uk/
NHS Networks - http://www.networks.nhs.uk/
New Health Network - http://www.newhealthnetwork.co.uk/
NHS Alliance - http://nhsalliance.org/
These are just some ideas, the tip of a very large iceberg. I would be
really interested to hear what others have to say!
Best wishes,
Belinda

Subject: Best practice in locating what other PCTs are doing/protocols
**Apologies for cross-posting**
Hello all,
A quick query, do any of you get asked what other PCTs are doing (protocols,
pathways, action plans, etc) and how do you find the information?
In this instance I've had a request for information on what other PCTs are
doing regarding the Change for Children agenda, in particular child
protection and immunisation. I have looked at NeLH Protocols and Care
Pathways, Dept of Health, NatPaCT and found a useful Forum on PCT and child
protection, and found a few PCT Child protection reports/action plans on the
web, and aside form scanning every pct website (although I'm sure most info
like this will be held on intranets) is there an easier way to find
information like this that I am obviously missing out on?
I do intend to have a look on the healthcare databases but I'm not sure
this will retrieve much.
thanks,
Michelle
