a) Renewal of Ovid BioMed Agreement
------------------------------------

The current Ovid BioMed Agreement comes to an end on 31st December and Eduserv Chest is in negotiation with Ovid for its renewal. The content is likely to be as follows:

Databases:

Medline
CINAHL (with enhanced product offering, to provide the Ovid CINAHL® Database + Full Text package)
Evidence Based Medicine Reviews (EBMR, comprising the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews; the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE) from the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination; the ACP Journal Club from the American College of Physicians; and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials)
British Nursing Index
AMED Allied and Complementary Medicine
Global Health
HMIC

Journals - Ovid Journal Collections, all embargo-free and including archival access:

Ovid Core Biomedical Collection
Ovid Biomedical Collection 2
Ovid Biomedical Collection 3
Ovid Biomedical Collection 4
Ovid Mental Health Collection

It is also proposed that e-books, for example in the format of Lippincott's Clinical Choice Collection, are also included (see <http://www.ovid.com/site/catalog/Collection/869.jsp?top=2&mid=3&bottom=7&subsection=11> for detail).

It would be helpful if you could let us know (a) if you would continue your subscription to Ovid BioMed - including a list of the content to which you would subscribe - and (b) if you would be interested in being able to licence the Lippincott Clinical Choice Collection as part of this Agreement.

Please email <mailto:[log in to unmask]> with your views as soon as possible.

b) New psychological resources available through Eduserv Chest
---------------------------------------------------------------

PsycBOOKS and PsycEXTRA from APA have been added to the Eduserv Chest portfolio of products supporting psychology studies, bringing opportunities for subscribers to access more data in this area with increased discounts in the first year of subscription.

The new products:

PsycBOOKS is a full-text database of book chapters, including the 1500 entries from the Encyclopedia of Psychology, and other recent and classic texts;

PsycEXTRA has mostly full-text content covering grey literature including content from private research institutes, professional associations, foundations, labs, government, and more. It is a companion to the scholarly PsycINFO database, supplying clinicians, information professionals, policy-makers, researchers, and consumers with a wide variety of credible information in psychology, behavioural science, and health.

The New Agreement:

PsycBOOKS and PsycEXTRA have been added to the well-established and successful Agreement for PsycINFO, the abstracting and indexing database covering scholarly books, journals, and dissertations with more than 2 million records from the early 1800s to the present. The new Agreement is open to UK and Irish Universities and gives full site-wide access with known costs to 31st July 2008. Pricing is based on FTE student numbers.

The addition of these databases brings the opportunity to cross-search multiple resources and has the additional benefit of greater choice of service provider for PsycINFO for UK universities.

Subscribing sites may choose to stay with one service provider for the full period of the Agreement or to change each year. Choose between APA*, CSA, EBSCO*, OCLC-PICA, and Ovid/Silverplatter or choose different Service Providers for different products.

* Currently PsycEXTRA is only available via APA and EBSCO.

Full details and licences are to be found at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/apa/>.

The current Agreement for PsycARTICLES, the full-text database of more than 50 journals published by APA and other publishers in subject areas such as applied psychology, health, theory, research, social/personality, is due for renewal next year and Eduserv Chest is entering negotiations with APA. We have received feedback from a number of universities with suggested improvements but we would welcome additional comments which would help inform negotiations. Please complete the online form which you can find at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/cgi-bin/eoi.cgi?lnk=274>.

c) CSA Collections Agreement
-----------------------------

A reminder that CSA databases are now available through Eduserv Chest at special discounts and grouped to match core academic usage with built in flexibility.

Universities and Third Level Institutions in the UK and Republic of Ireland can now access data from four specially created subject area collections through the CSA Illumina. Institutions can subscribe to one collection and add individual databases from other collections with a 10% reduction on the additions or licence two or more collections with further reductions - up to 20% if you licence all four. Pricing is fixed for the duration of the Agreement.

The subject areas are:

Arts & Humanities - this includes access to the British Humanities Index (BHI) and Linguistics & Language Behaviour Abstracts (LLBA);

Social Sciences includes Sociological Abstracts, Applied Social Sciences Index & Abstracts (ASSIA) and Library & Information Science Abstracts (LISA);

Technology brings you a multitude of databases including Abstracts in New Technology & Engineering (ANTE), Aerospace, Civil Engineering Abstracts and METADEX;

Natural Sciences - you'll find Aquatic Sciences & fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) and Environmental Sciences & Pollution Management as well as Microbiology Abstracts and others here.

More information about the databases can be found on CSA's web-site at <www.csa.com/e_products/databases-collections.php>. and to find out more about the agreement and how to subscribe visit <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/all-csa/>.
