Yorkshire & Humberside Career Development Group Sponsored Walk in aid of CILIP International Projects - "York and the River Foss".

The Yorkshire and Humberside Career Development Group will be holding a sponsored walk on Sunday 3rd July 2005 to celebrate 110 years of the CDG and to raise money for the CDG's international projects. The walk is open to anyone, so why not bring the whole family for a fantastic day out in the historic and picturesque city of York.

Where: The walk commences at the bottom of Clifford's Tower, at the heart of the old medieval city. We will walk along part of the old city walls, before heading away from the city centre, towards the Nestle Chocolate Factory. We will then head back along the banks of the River Foss towards York Minster, the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe, to continue along the rest of the city walls. En-route we will pass the former home of "Railway King", George Hudson, and the birthplace of Guy Fawkes. Finally, five and a half miles after setting off, we will arrive back at Clifford's Tower.

When: We will be setting off from the steps of Clifford's Tower at 10.30am. The walk will take approximately 4 ½ hours, bringing us back into the city centre in the early afternoon, allowing plenty of time for further exploration of the city (and the shops) for those who wish to do so. We will be stopping for lunch at approximately 1pm at one of the many cafes and pubs in the city and there will also be the opportunity for snack breaks throughout the day.

Where does the money go? The sponsor money raised by participants will go towards CILIP's international projects, further details of which can be found at www.careerdevelopmentgroup.org.uk/curproj.htm. Previous projects include supporting a Voluntary Service Overseas worker in Uganda and providing funds to buy books for a school in Soweto.

Further information:

Part of the walk is along the city walls, which include steps and some slightly uneven surfaces; therefore sensible footwear and clothing should be worn. Also, although there will be plenty of opportunities to purchase refreshments en-route, participants may wish to bring some water, snacks and sunscreen with them.

Travelling to, and staying in York: www.visityork.org/visitors/main.cfm
www.york.gov.uk/parking

Details of the route can be found by visiting the Walk Yorkshire website. www.walkyorkshire.com Click on "Walking" followed by "Walking routes" then select "York and the River Foss" route from the walks in York list

How to take part: Simply complete and return the form below. Further details and sponsor forms will then be sent out to you. If you need any further information please contact Suzanne Rhodes [log in to unmask]
