Dear colleagues,
I am currently designing a Disaster Plan for my library.
I have discovered that there are a couple of water pipes along the wall
directly above some glass-fronted bookshelves containing extremely valuable
books. There is obviously a risk of flooding here, either from the pipes
bursting or the valves leaking, so I would like to be able to protect them
in some way from such a disaster (as moving the books elsewhere is
impossible in the short term).
I have heard that there are some special "canopies" available for purchase
that I could fix to the top of the shelves and hang over the edge to
prevent water from getting onto or into the shelves.
However, I have not managed to find any suppliers on the web or via CILIP's
web site, or via the usual conservation / preservation suppliers' web
sites. Can anyone help?
Many thanks in advance for your assistance.
Best wishes,
Clair
