August 16th is the date for CILIP in London's Summer Trip.
This year the venue is Norwich's exciting Lottery-funded Forum - a unique
landmark building situated in the city centre. The original intention was
that it would house a new state-of-the-art library to replace the Central
Library which burnt down in 1994. It is now a dynamic and exciting centre
for information, learning and entertainment.
Novel features of the Millennium Library (the third busiest public library
in the UK) include a self-service Express lending library, innovative
children's library, a major Business Service and the 2nd Air Division
Memorial Library. The building, which also contains the Norfolk History
Centre, the BBC's regional headquarters and multi-media studios, the City
Learning Station, a multi-media visitor attraction and a range of shops and
restaurants, has become a significant Norwich landmark and is considered to
have achieved iconic status.
This eventful day will include an introduction to, and tour of, the Library,
talks by staff from both the Forum Trust and the BBC, as well as a chance to
explore the other features of this controversial building. There will, of
course, be a social element, including evening refreshments by the river.
There will be no charge. If you would like to come, please send your details
by August 9th to Phillip Powell <[log in to unmask]>.
