I agree with Nicola that information literacy is, or should be, central to
every sector. And I feel sure that the IL group within CSG welcomes all
comers, regardless of sector.  The fact that sectors such as public
libraries and youth libraries don't seem to be vocal in the new IL group is
a bit disappointing but I guess we are all up to our ears within our own
areas of work, and we need a few champions who feel passionately enough
about it to give it some time and energy.
The Update articles are a welcome focus on an issue which underlies access
to our collections in all sectors.  At the moment it's difficult to know the
extent of IL work in public libraries - either through work with children
(class visits programmes etc) or through support for adult learners.  There
is surely a lot that could be said and debated about this area, and it would
be great if those of us who are interested could generate some activity and
focus.
I see there is a (pre IFLA?) conference coming up in Oslo this year on
Information Literacy and the citizen.  It would be great to develop this a
focus on this strand of work here in the UK.
Leaving aside the issue of the current review of CILIP groups and where that
might take us,  getting children's, schools and adult public librarians to
join the IL group within CSG,  as well as this e.list, would be a first step
I guess.  Then it would truly become a joint CILIP grouping.  Perhaps those
of us interested could all go out and recruit one other active member from
these sectors to help the cause?
