Dear All,
We've been investigating literature linking on Google Scholar. We've decided
against enabling this functionality for our users at the current time.
Our view on linking is that a single resolver used by multiple applications
is the most efficient direction to go; Google Scholar linking falls in with
this view, but we also want to avoid uploading any holdings information to
any vendor/system. The impact of doing this means that we are maintaining
information in multiple places. In this context, even an automated method is
not desirable (at least, not for us!). In addition, for those organisations
that integrate linking with document delivery, the Google Scholar approach
removes the ability to easily order documents that aren't licensed by the
organisation.
I'm interested in what the view of the wider community has to say with
regard to linking and Google Scholar - particularly around the requirement
to supply holdings information. Any comments?
thanks,
Phillip
