Subject: FW: Next release of SSE - testing
Dear all
From today, we have the next release of the NLH search engine available
to test. We'd like to give you the opportunity to have a look at the
features of the next release before it goes live, and to gather your
feedback on the changes, a summary of which is given below.
The test URL is: <http://test.library.nhs.uk>
http://test.library.nhs.uk. Your Athens IDs should work so that you can
log in and use the Save features, etc.
This test site is only available until Tuesday 6th September - after
that, you will need to go back and use the usual URL: www.library.nhs.uk
If you'd like to feedback or comment, please do so, by Tuesday 6th
September, by replying to this email. All feedback will then be
collated and passed back to the SSE team. Sorry for the tight deadline
- we're having to work to tight schedules.
Additions to the search:
* Search History - records the searches carried out within any 1
session - allows you to re-run or edit your search
* Email search results - for logged in users. You can email
individual results from the Result Detail page, or save a selection of
results, and email them from your Saved Search Results page
* Viewed results - these now display in a different colour, so
that you can identify which results you've already visited
* Navigation bar at the top of the page - a Search link has been
added, which allows you to navigate back to your last set of results
easily
* Advanced Search - new option for building your search - assisted
search (Google-esque wording) as well as attribute search with Boolean
operators and fields - click the radio button option at the top of the
Advanced Search page
Enhancements to first release:
* Save Search Criteria - has ben renamed Save this search, and
moved to the My Search box on the right hand side of the screen
* Advanced Search screen - extra simple search box has been
removed from the right hand side of the screen, to avoid confusion
* Search Profiles - last amended date added, message to prompt for
a Profile name added if user forgets to do this
* Still searching - extra text has been added at both the top and
bottom of the results page to highlight when a search has not been
completed and is still going on in the background - and making it
obvious that you need to click to refresh your results
* Search terms - are now carried between screens, to make it
easier to amend/refine a search, without having to type all your search
terms in again
* Back/forward buttons - using these buttons in your browser
should now not cause error messages
* Advanced search - date ranges - these have been amended to to
make it easier for users to specify when they want results from, and has
been moved up the page to make it easier to find
* Search results - tabs - these have been amended to make it more
obvious which results tab a user is currently looking at
* NLH Search in Progress screen - has been amended to make it more
obvious what is being searched
* Results - the titles on the results pages have been amended to
make them stand out more clearly
* Results from Biomed Central - should only indicate a full text
link when one is available (NB, there is a problem with a Biomed
connector at the moment, which means that results are not displaying -
this will be resolved very soon)
Best wishes
Fran, on behalf of the SSE team
