Dear Ann
We don't have service level agreements as yet at Exeter but I
believe they are in the offing. What we do have is a policy
which clearly outlines what students and staff can expect (i.e.
the type of advice we provide; procedures for help with
assignments; student numbers for workshop attendance etc) and
what we expect, in return, from students and staff.
It came about after a discussion on giving fair and equal
access to all students via our online booking system; questions
from staff about how much notice we needed to deliver workshops
and a change in the way we decided to help students with their
assignments. It is regularly updated as new issues arise. I
thoroughly recommend it. Everyone knows where they are. A
section on exactly what you can do to help students and in what
ways you encourage students to help themselves would be even
better. In fact, I think I'll update ours to that effect -
thanks for the nudge, Ann!
