The Cordilleran Section of the Geological Society of America
brings you a short course:
Quantitative P-T-t Paths from Integrated Thermodynamic Modeling and
Metamorphic Textures
San Jose, California
Wed., April 27, and Thurs., April 28 2005
Harold Stowell, University of Alabama, (205) 348 5098; Douglas Tinkham,
University of Calgary; Carlos Zuluaga, University of Minnesota, Morris.
Cost: Professional: $300. Student: $200
This 1.5 day short course will start at 1 pm on Wednesday and end at 5 pm
on Thursday (premeeting). The course, designed for graduate students or
Ph.D. petrology, mineralogy, or tectonics specialists, will provide
participants with hands-on knowledge about data and methods for
constructing quantitative P-T-t paths using pseudosections (e.g.,
composition-specific pressure-temperature phase diagrams), mineral
chemistry, and textures. The course will emphasize the use of THERMOCALC
(Powell & Holland, 1988, Powell and others, 1998) for constructing P-T-t
paths. Participants will learn the details of THERMOCALC data file
organization and will construct parts of a P-T pseudosection.
