Dear All
MORE FREE TRAINING PLACES ON OFFER.
You may remember that the SW Hub was organising a series of training days
around creative literacy and in early September we had a few spare places
on a drama day, which were offered to GEM colleagues outside of the South
West. A few colleagues were able to take up the offer of a free place and
the feedback from the day has been extremely positive.
Here are two responses to colleagues being asked what they got from the day:
łTons: loads of ideas, great contacts, fun by the barrel load.˛
łThe tutor was amazing. Lots of fantastic ideas and, more importantly,
practical ideas that can be transferred to my museum work.˛
The remaining three training days are all taking place in November and once
again we find ourselves with a few places spare on each. All training places
are free to colleagues working in the MLA sector, and to teachers working in
partnership with them.
7th November:
National Maritime Museum, Falmouth
A professional story teller and puppet company combine to put together an
active and exciting day on using stories and puppets to engage with the
collections. This day would be useful for anyone thinking of getting
involved in Literacy work, but also for colleagues planning interpretation,
family events or outreach programmes.
16th November:
Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, Bournemouth
This day provides much more of an overview of the potential for being
creative around Literacy work. The day includes case studies of museums that
have run successful Literacy projects, an up date on the Literacy Strategy,
a puppet workshop, a story telling workshop and the chance to try out the
Victorian Mystery Story created by the Russell-Cotes Museum with the help of
local teachers.
21st November:
Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery
A puppet company and professional scriptwriter have joined forces to create
a day looking at how puppets and performances can be developed around
objects. The day aims to provide useful ideas for both project work and for
interesting ways to develop and follow up workshop sessions.
This would be especially useful for anyone wanting to get involved in
projects or activities aimed at encouraging reluctant writers. Currently
there is a national focus on encouraging boys to write more for example. The
day should be equally useful however for just taking the time to think about
ways in which we can encourage the children to do the talking in out taught
sessions.
All of these days are free to colleagues and include refreshments. If you
would like further details of any of these days or would like to book a
place, please contact Daniel Moore on 0117 922 4653 or email him at:
[log in to unmask] as soon as possible.
All the best
Jo
