TITLE: Senior Social Worker
SUPERVISOR: Director of Program Development and Evaluation
LOCATION: LSN Headquarters, Washington, D.C.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Senior Social Worker will work with the Health Education Specialist,
Regional Advisors, and other LSN staff to improve LSN field social workers'
competencies in case and caseload management; training and oversight of peer
outreach workers; application of data gathering forms by peer outreach
workers; analysis of data gathered by outreach workers; coordination with
LSN economic opportunity agents; and other tasks. The Senior Social Worker
will advise LSN on development and implementation of health and social work
activities in six field offices and with an expanding set of LSN partners
including prosthetic centers, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities.
S/he will provide technical guidance and coordination on social work for
interdepartmental team members, consultants, regionally based trainers and
LSN field staff on psycho-social issues affecting landmine survivors and
persons with disabilities in post-conflict areas. It is expected that the
senior social worker will attend international and domestic conferences and
meetings related to land mine survivor health issues. The Senior Social
Worker will work closely with the Health Education Specialist in the
development of training guides and other materials with a special focus on
the psycho-social area. S/he will be a member of the Health Task Force and
supervise the Health Education Specialist. It is expected that the Senior
Social Worker will have clinical experience giving him/her direct experience
with psycho-social problems survivors face as well as expertise in a full
range of mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis and
treatment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure improved competencies of field social workers
2. Supervise the Health Education Specialist
3. Assist the Health Education Specialist to produce required
guidelines, tools and materials for training of field staff
4. Oversee consultants, as needed, who are skilled and knowledgeable
about the physical health of amputees and/or other technical areas
5. Manage consultants employed to aid in the design and production of
tools and materials for training and educational purposes.
6. Provide leadership to LSN in strengthening the competencies of field
workers, particularly in the psycho-social arena.
7. Represent LSN before international and domestic bodies working in
the area of health and health care for persons with disabilities in post-
conflict settings.
8. Assist LSN to identify partners and other stakeholders interested in
working with LSN to promote and improve the health and health care of landmine
survivors.
9. Help ensure that LSN's training programs and work with social
workers are state-of-the art and that they align with strategies and
approaches applied by other international and national donors and key actors.
10. Participate in strategic planning and work plan development by field
programs
11. Help ensure that data collected by field workers and entered into
the database is accurate and that the field workers understand the terminology
used in all forms applied in the field
12. Develop a plan for training in conjunction with the Health Education
Specialist that maximizes participation of LSN's human resources both in
headquarters and in the field
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Advanced degree in social work
2. Six years or more of post-graduate experience
3. Training and experience in clinical social work (both individual
casework and group practice)
4. Demonstrated experience working in cross-cultural settings with
disadvantaged populations (either in the US or developing country)
5. Demonstrated experience working with victims of trauma
6. Experience working with persons with disabilities
