I have only recently got hold of an old copy of 'Durgnat on Film' (Faber &
Faber). What a remarkable writer! Ideas about film, observations on film
style and citations of films come at the reader in an avalanche. It makes me
think a good critic is the best film philosopher.
I am pretty much in the dark about Durgnat (biographically) - not that
biography matters all that much to me - but I do wonder if anyone could
recommend any of his other writing.
