The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Maastricht
University, The Netherlands, offers two tenure track assistant/associate
professorships in Econometrics
Job description: These positions have been made available through the
award of a Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW)
Professorship 2005 to the holder of the full professorship in econometrics
at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The research of
the Academy-chair will be concentrated in the field of dynamic panel data
and time series econometrics with applications in business and economics.
The applicant will be appointed as a research leader and contributes to
research and teaching in econometrics and related areas and closely
collaborates with the Academy Professor, either in the field of panel data
and time series econometrics or in a closely related area. With the
Academy-chair, the applicant co-supervises Ph.D. students. Administrative
duties are very limited.
Job qualification: (Almost) Ph.D. in relevant area, affinity with
teaching, strong research orientation, willingness to work in teams,
potential to become a leader in the field of research in econometrics. The
applicant should have professorial potential in the Academy Professor’s
field of expertise.
The Maastricht Econometrics Group: The group has a strong research
orientation, mainly in the field of time series and panel data
econometrics. Current areas of application are financial economics, in
particular asset pricing, macroeconomics and innovation and technology. In
the motivation of the award of a prestigious KNAW- Professorship 2005 the
Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences mentions that the
econometrics chair
“… has been awarded the Academy Professorship for his fundamental
contributions to the theory of econometric time series models. His papers
written since the early 1970's have sparked off some of the most exciting
developments in his field.”
Besides the strong focus on research, the group also aims to provide
excellent education in econometrics, and has consistent top ratings in the
school. The student population in Econometrics is international, with
approximately 60% of students from outside of the Netherlands. Many of the
activities of the group are performed in teams, and the group tries to
foster such teamwork as much as possible.
Conditions of employment: The permanent positions are initially offered
for a three-year period and, subject to a positive evaluation, extended by
another three years, with the possibility of tenure thereafter.
Appointment as associate professor with tenure is possible provided the
successful candidate already satisfies the criteria for this rank.
Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and work experience,
between €3500 and € 4500 per month for a fulltime assistant professorship
and between € 4000 and € 5500 per months for a fulltime associate
professorship (12 monthly payments). On top of this, there is an 8%
holiday allowance. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable
tax treatment (30% rule).
