Jonathan - try speaking to Angela ogden at RNC www.rnc.ac.uk as they
offer a number of courses including ECDL which I believe will be offered
as a distance learning option from September this year.
Best wishes

Subject: Computer courses for a person with a visual impairment using
screen reading software?
Dear All
I would be grateful for some advice relating to Information Technology
courses for a person with a visual impairment using screen reading
software.
I teach a student who is registered blind (no useful vision) and uses
screen reading software (JAWS for Windows) to access a Microsoft Office
2002/Windows XP computer. Earlier this month she completed the OCR Level
1 Certificate for IT Users (New CLAIT) qualification via Unit 1 (Using a
Computer), Unit 2 (Word Processing), Unit 3 (Electronic Communication),
Unit 4 (Spreadsheets) and Unit 5 (Databases).
She would now like to progress to a Level 2 qualification, such as CLAIT
Plus. However, I note that the structure and content of the OCR CLAIT
Suite of qualifications will be changed from 1st September 2005:
http://www.ocr.org.uk/OCR/WebSite/docroot/campaigns.jsp?oid=8591 . Does
anyone yet know whether the CLAIT Plus 2006 course will be sufficiently
accessible for an individual with this level of vision and using this
assistive technology software to pass the qualification?
NB. I had also considered The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL,
www.ecdl.co.uk <http://www.ecdl.co.uk/> ), but understand that there are
elements of certain modules which are not accessible to screen reader
users?
Many thanks
Jonathan
