The Flow of Ideas

Criticalists: Glenn and Ruth Rikowski now have their own website which focuses
on education, library and information studies.

It is called The Flow of Ideas and it is at: <http://www.flowideas.co.uk/>

It includes a wide variety of information, such as details about our publications,
our talks, various events that we have been involved with and are currently
involved with, a Call for Authors etc. It is great that we are able to bring
all our work together in one place like this. There is also material on Marxist
educational theory, labour-power theory, the GATS and education and libraries
- and much more!

If you are forwarding information about The Flow of Ideas to others it would
be great if you could also include the following information in the body
of the email:

1. Ruth will be giving a talk about her book Globalisation, Information and
Libraries, at the Lucas Arms in Grays Inn Road. London, Tuesday 27th Sep
2005, at 7pm. All welcome. She will also be giving the same talk at Birkbeck
College, University of London on 8th December 2005.

2. The next Marxism and Education: Renewing Dialogues VII seminar is on 26th
October 2005, at the Insitute of Education, University of London. The theme
is: 'Education and Alliances for Social Change'. The seminar is free, but
places are limited, so if you would like to reserve a place, contact Glenn
at: [log in to unmask]

3. A DVD was made of Ruth's book launch for her book Globalisation, Information
and Libraries, which was held at London South Bank University on 26th April
2005. Copies of this are available from Ruth - so contact her if you would
like a copy (number of copies permitting of course). The talks that Ruth
and Glenn gave at the launch, and the introduction by Deian Hopkin, the Vice-Chancellor
of London South Bank University, are available on our website, under the
'Presentations' section. Available in Dial-Up and Broadband, but resolution
is better in BB.

4. The latest issue of ISC, summer 2005 (the e-journal that Ruth is the co-editor
of) is now up on the web at - <http://libr.org/ISC> - title of the issue
is:
'E-books; Public Libraries, Information, Communities, Social Exclusion and
Culture; Copyright; Libraries in Nigeria and Globalisation'

5. Ruth is the Commissioning Editor for the Chandos Series for Information
Professionals, and is calling for authors for this series. So, if you are
interested in writing for the Series, do contact her.

6. Glenn is the Series and Commissioning Editor (with Tony Green) for the
Palgrave Macmillan Marxism and Education Series, and is calling for authors
for this series. So, if you are interested in writing for the Series, do contact
him.

7. Glenn is Calling for Papers for a special issue of Information for Social
Change (ISC), No.23, Summer 2006, on the theme 'Education for Social Change'.
Any suggestions/ideas/contributions welcome - do contact him.

8. Glenn's pamphlet, Silence on the Wolves: What is Absent in New Labour's
Five Year Strategy for Education (May 2005, ISBN 1 90117744 0), Occasional
Paper, Education Research Centre, University of Brighton, is available from:
The Administrator, Education Research Centre, Mayfield House, University
of Brighton, Falmer, Brighton BN1 9PH. It is £3.00 (inc. postage & package).Cheques
payable to the 'University of Brighton'.

9. The search engine on the website finds exact matches of terms. Thus, if
the user inserts the term 'Apprenticeship', then this term will be found,
but not if the user inserts 'apprenticeship'.

10. The website was designed by Digo PC - www.digopc.co.uk <http://www.digopc.co.uk/>
If you like our website, and are interested in Digo PC designing one for
you and/or know of someone else that would be interested, then do contact
them - either through their website or at - [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>

With very best wishes
Glenn and Ruth
