To all graduate students in classical subjects
Through CUCD (the Council for University Classical Departments), and under
the auspices of the AHRC-funded project on research postgraduate training
(based at the ICS), I am organizing a panel at next April's Classical
Association conference in Newcastle upon Tyne.
There will be panellists from the Society of Authors and from leading UK
classical publishers. We can either suggest themes for them to make
presentations on, or envisage a less structured, round-table discussion
with certain subjects mapped out in advance. I am happy to be guided by
whatever UK postgraduates would like to see covered.
The speaker from the Society of Authors will be Kate Pool, an expert on
intellectual property, royalties, and reproduction rights. Suggested
topics I have already received include how publishers should and could
publish datasets better; the possibility of joint paper and electronic
publication; how to protect your work from plagiarism by scholars or even
journal reveiwers; how to get work into refereed journals; how to use
copyrighted material in publications; etc. etc.
All suggestions from PG students gratefully received (including assent
to/dissent from any of the above).
