EMAIL (to The Wrap. c/o The Guardian):
<<
I've been puzzled over the occasional [word omitted] in the Wrap.
The latest occurred today:
"you will see so many people, of all ages, races, and [word
omitted], smiling up at you from election literature ..."
When I checked Simon Hoggart's column online, I found that he'd said:
"You will see so many people, of all ages, races and sexes, smiling
up at you from election literature ..."
No sex please, we're the Guardian!
{I think you ought to adjust whatever program screens the Wrap for improper
language.}

Dear Robin
It's not our email program that we would need to adjust - it's our readers!
We omit mentions of sex because many subscribers receive the Wrap at work,
and their IT departments block messages containing so-called "dirty" words.
After a little while, everyone knows what "word omitted" denotes...

Dunno what this signifies, other than that I'm a bit obtuse.
