Hi,
Found this on a US list. Sorry if this is old news but I find this wee bit of information has to be a candidate for the trick of the year.

You could try putting an <!-- at the end of the TITLE of the forum directly above the one you want to hide,
and an --> at the end of the TITLE of the forum you want to hide, it seems to work.
The forum would still be accessible to a student who viewed the page source though.

And it does work. All you have to do to get the hidden one back is click on the "Modify" button adjacent to the the upper (visible) forum title and the system opens the hidden forum instead (ain't that weird). Remove the "-->" from the title and hey presto the forum is visible again.
The downside is that, if you want to modify the visible forum, you first have to make the hidden forum visible.
So maybe more the trick of the month rather than trick of the year.
best,
