Hi Arthur,
we use the solution described by Malcolm.
For a unit we have one tab (for students and staff) where we placed modules
for both. Which modules they see depends on their institution role.
On the same page we have also the mail module (showing the last received
mail messages in their mailbox) and modules that are department specific
shown.
There is also a new Portal ++ building block (http://www.blokwerks.com/)
that might help. It says that it has nested tab support. You can download a
1900 days working trial.
Unfortunately the building block does not work under Bb 6.1 (AP3). Therefor
I haven't been able to test it yet. I know they're busy to make it work
under Bb 6.3 too.
