Those interested in the use of technology in delivering healthcare for older
people may be interested in this flyer;
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/ASSISTECH/'Care_for_Older_People'_Flyer.pdf
which invites you to a free event disseminating the results from a recent
DTI Global Watch mission to Japan:
"In October 2004, A DTI Global Watch Mission visited Japan to learn and plan
for the predicted demographic changes in the UK. The increasing Japanese
burden of pension and healthcare provision for a growing elderly population
is forcing changes in long-term care policy, and a rethinking of the way
long-term care services are to be provided.
Although care for older people is emerging as a priority theme in many
countries, Japan was considered at the appropriate level of development and
sophistication that would maximise the benefit of this mission. There are
many lessons that the UK healthcare delivery market can learn from the
Japanese experience, as well as a number of potential opportunities for
collaboration in this market.
With presentations from mission members, this event will present the
findings of the visit to Japan, including:
* Why there has been rapid growth of private sector involvement in
healthcare markets
* What our assistive device companies need to do to maintain competitive
advantage
* Why a nationwide care assessment tool can help improve capacity planning
in the UK
* How UK universities can foster collaboration with Japanese organisations
* How the private sector is responding to opportunities presented by
demographic change
* Where post-3G mobile technologies can be utilised to monitor personal
safety"
