www.pasa.nhs.uk/eat/selectiontool This is really interesting - though I hope
it develops a bit more!
Where did I miss finding out about this?!
Is this only stuff on the contract, or anything?
Cheers

NHS PASA uses the same approach to manage the 'Electronic Assistive
Technology Product Information Database', (EATpid), which acts as a
electronic catalogue for the main products available on the EAT agreement.
Where financial details are not involved, it is the Agency's' view that
supplier maintenance of such details is the most beneficial approach.
I should further qualify that by stating that PASA is still required to
'approve' submissions or changes to the database.

The CAP catalogue principle of giving suppliers the responsibility for
upkeep of their own section is (IMHO) a master stroke. The people making
the money have the incentive to place up to date info in front of the
customer and they have the knowledge to get it right. Not sure whether this
would work for databases as all encompassing as the DLF, but it would offer
advantages for NHS contract info (eg).

The CAP Website has a catalogue of all the products (AT and otherwise) that
are available through the project from the accredited suppliers (currently
45). Individual suppliers are (as I understand it) responsible for
uploading and maintaining information about themselves and the products they
sell. This works quite well in this model because the Catalogue is where
the project team, CAP centers et al look for information when placing orders
so there is a commercial motivation for the suppliers to maintain their
data. Where I guess it falls down in the context of this discussion is that
it is geared toward products which are largely already established in the
market and is of course supplier data and doesn't currently support
commenting by other people. http://www.becta.org.uk/cap/ click on "CAP
Catalogue".
The CAP-Forum is Email rather than Web based although admit I'm not sure
whether or not it's alive, what traffic it has etc.

Aidan
BECTa CAP started a listserv in the early days, but it was little used &
I've not seen a posting for years. Not sure what's on their website now
- I have difficulty with web based discussion boards as you need to remember
to look at them!

yes, thanks, I'll have a look through for some information.
I hope everyone realises that the information on the FAST website is free
for everyone to access!
I am a bit troubled by the lack of available AT product information for
professionals working in education. There seems to be little access to
information for them as it is for people affiliated to the NHS. I recently
saw a message on "Discussion list for Assistive Technology providers in HE
institutions"
([log in to unmask]) about the problems of finding suitable equipment
and who to ask.
So it's a fairly widespread problem...
Cheers,
Aidan.
