Thanks for your reply, Colin,
I will look into this option a little closer again tomorrow but I am still
worried about him not beeing able to see that display on the control and
therefor beeing in danger of driving into something when he thinks he is
adjusting the ELRs... as he would be using the same switch and joystick...

The REMG80A has the option of sticking two switches in. One switch is 
on/off the other acts as an alternative to the profile button on the 
joystick. The profile switch toggles through the profiles in sequence. The 
profiles include actuator profiles. The joystick can be used to actually 
operate the actuators when that profile is shown. You can see where you are 
on a 7-segment display on the joystick - including which actuator you are 
potentially about to operate. It sounds to me that this would do the trick.
