RealPlayer
Here at the University of Derby Media Studies students require
RealPlayer in order to access live TV and radio news clips, but because
of the level of lockdown on our student network they are not able to
download the software. Media Player, which is available, does not meet
their requirements. The solution seems to be the purchase of a licence
to install the software on one set of pcs in a lab, though we are not
yet clear of the financial implications of this. I do know that a
campus wide licence is prohibitively expensive. I would be interested
to know if other HE institutions have come up against similar problems
and how it has been managed.
