DOCUMENTATION ASSISTANT
Salary up to £20,500 pa
You will carry out basic day-to-day maintenance of the Gallery's Picture
Dossiers and undertake bibliographic research in support of the Curatorial
Catalogue Programme and the Library's collection development policy. You
will also provide the widest possible appropriate access (virtual and
actual) to the collection information documented and/or held in the
Dossiers, enhance information held in the Gallery's collection management
system and provide back-up support to the Collection Information Manager.
You must have a good first degree, preferably in art history or a related
discipline, and a basic knowledge of a range of European languages. A
thorough knowledge of the history of Western European painting, 1200-1900,
is essential and familiarity with the National Gallery collection would be
advantageous.
You should have a good understanding of collection documentation in an
archive, library or museum environment and experience of bibliographic
research. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required and
the ability to work quickly and to agreed deadlines is essential.
Enthusiasm, adaptability, attention to detail, a methodical approach and
accuracy are all key qualities.
