Subject: Ford Foundation - Job Opening in Hanoi, Vietnam
Date: Thu, 12 May 2005 11:34:33 -0700
From: Miller, Douglas <[log in to unmask]>

Attention: Franz von Benda-Beckman
Good afternoon. My name is Douglas Miller and I am the Search
Coordinator at the Ford Foundation in NYC. I write to you on the
recommendation of Jeffrey Campbell, program officer here in the
Foundation's NY office. I seek your assistance in identifying
candidates for the position of Program Officer in Community and Resource
Development & Economic Development in the Ford Foundation's Hanoi,
Vietnam office. Attached is the position description, complete with
required and preferred qualifications.
The position will aim to encourage, promote and propagate asset building
to reduce poverty and injustice, addressing both old, persistent forms
of poverty which market socialism has not eliminated and new forms of
poverty which are emerging in consequence of high rates of capitalist
economic growth and socio-economic transformation.
The program officer will work in both the fields of Environment and
Development & Development Finance, while drawing on lessons from the
field of Community Development. The Development Finance work would
address the micro enterprise development needs of individual households
and people living in conditions of poverty in burgeoning urban areas and
those rendered landless in rural areas, particularly the Mekong Delta.
The Environment and Development work would respond to small scale
enterprises in the Uplands, especially community-based producer groups.
Over time the two initiatives would cross penetrate, for example,
extending retail financial services to producers groups in the Uplands
and extending lessons on scaling up and market penetration to micro
enterprise owners in urban and lowland rural areas.
I hope that you would be willing to assist us in identifying a talented
and diverse pool of candidates. You are invited to send nominations to
me by e-mail ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>),
fax (212-351-3644) or telephone (212-573-4794). Of course, we also
welcome your own application. We would also be very grateful if you
would circulate this announcement to those in your networks whom you
think may be both qualified and interested. Our application deadline of
all necessary application materials is May 27, 2005.
I thank you in advance for your assistance and I look forward to hearing
back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Douglas A. Miller
