DTU SENIOR MEDICAL STATISTICIAN
Academic-Related Research Staff Grade II: Salary: £27,116-£35,883
A highly motivated individual with a proven track record in research and
clinical trials is sought to expand the statistical and clinical trial
activity of the Diabetes Trials Unit, based at the recently built
University of Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Reporting directly to the DTU Director, the successful candidate will
primarily be responsible for the statistical design, analysis and
reporting of large and small-scale clinical trials with an emphasis on
genetic analyses and opportunities for original research.
The DTU, one of the largest clinical diabetes research groups in Europe,
conducts trials to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards in Type 2
diabetes ranging from laboratory based studies, proof of concept and
efficacy studies (Phase IIA/B) to randomised multi-centre and
international controlled trials (Phase III). This exciting new post is
designed to expand the DTU’s statistical team and its ability to
initiate new trials. The post holder will work closely with a
multidisciplinary team of clinician scientists, research managers,
mathematical modellers, informatics and data management experts and must
be prepared to travel nationally and internationally.
Applicants should possess an MSc and/or a PhD in Medical Statistics,
have practical experience in medical statistics and epidemiology and
must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Previous clinical
trials research experience, publications and a track record of
successful grant applications would be an advantage. Candidates should
have excellent computer skills and considerable experience in using
statistical packages and database systems. A sound knowledge of working
with SAS and SAS macros is desirable. Statistical techniques will
include survival analysis, randomisation methodology, multivariate
modelling, logistical regression, phase II/III methodology, quality of
life and a particular emphasis on genetic analyses. Applicants should
have good communication and personnel management skills, possess
initiative, and be able to work effectively as a team.
The appointment will be for 2 years in the first instance.
