Anne has a very good point. We also rely on the student id for HESA
info on LEA code

Hi
My concern about the ART id is that if we are just provided with this
number we have no idea under which LEA the student would come. So when
sending withdrawal/transfer/intermitting forms then we would not know
where to send them.
I mentioned this to out local LEA some time ago and whilst they
appreciated the problem but there was nothing anyone could do about it.

Simon,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
A similar thing happened with the DFES. When they updated the
transfer/withdrawal etc. forms a year or two ago they were asking us to
fill in the ART number. I queried it with them and subsequently they
changed the forms and now they ask for ART or SSN number.

Subject: Support Notification Changes
Hi all,
Not sure if anyone has noticed yet but, so far, all the 2005/6 Student
Finance Direct support notification forms we have received have the ART
ID rather than the student support number as the barcode in the top
left-hand corner.
I suspect that this will affect institutions where they are scanning the
barcodes into a spreadsheet or database in order to generate a SSAC file
rather than using the SSAR file. The format of the SSAC file returned
requires the SSN rather than the ART ID.
I have reported this to the student loan company who state this is an
error and will not be repeated. They couldn't advise me on how many
have been issued in this way.
I thought that I would bring this to your attention.
Many thanks,
Simon
