At Exeter we are using SITS E:vision for on line registration.
Last year was the first time we used it in anger and it was deemed a great
success. Our experience was similar to Warwicks in that it reduced costs
and staff time & greatly improved data accuracy. Student feedback was also
very positive.
The registration process forces students through a 'pathway' that ensures
each screen is accessed, and timestamps each click through to the next
screen, thus giving a 'signiture' of sorts for each screen.
The basic process is as follows:
1.students log in using their IT username and password
2.read message giving instruction on how to register
3.read tuition fee statement
4.read data protection statement
5.check & edit home and term time address, nationality, country of domicile,
ethnic origin, disability and disability allowance data
6.give data protection release of information authorities (so we can speak
to their parents etc about data held on them)
7.agree to registration statement and register (they MUST agree to continue
past this point)
8. view details summary
9.change IT password
10.read 'thankyou now pay your fees' notice
11.finish
We have chosen to give students the ownership of their own data as far as
the information above goes. Any address / nationality etc changes are
written directly to the student records database. Thus far I am aware of no
incidents of abuse of this facility.
I'm happy send a detailed report of the results and a link to screens in use
to interested parties on request.
Hope this is of use...
Regards,
Ian
