The 2005 Romance Studies Colloquium (12-14 September, 2005) will address
issues in 'Postcolonialism in the Romance literatures'.
Gregynog Hall, Newtown (Powys) will be the stunning setting for the
conference.
Recent conferences in this long established series include 'Fins de siècle'
(1999), 'Writing Gender in the C21st' (2001), 'Habitat' (2003) and
'Celebration!' (New Jersey, October 2004).
The following Call for Papers may also be of interest to colleagues in
French and Hispanic Studies. Proposals should be addressed to Dr Lloyd
Davies (address below).

CALL FOR PAPERS
'The Literary Territories of Postcolonialism: Theories and Languages of
Resistance'
Possible topics: centre and periphery (e.g. north-south divide); islands
and mainlands; emigration and homeland; autobiography and postcolonial
writing; the postcolonial city, violence and violation; opacity and orality;
; postcolonial approaches to medieval and early modern literature; futures
for postcolonial studies; corporeality; style and form in the postcolonial
text; ethics; postcolonial masculinities; transnationality; transference;
hybridities; visual culture in/and the postcolonial text
Papers of 20-25 minutes in length will be delivered in English. Comparative
approaches are welcome.
A selection of peer-reviewed articles based on papers given at the
Colloquium will be published in Romance Studies (founded 1982). Articles
for consideration by the journal may be written in English, French, Italian
or Spanish.
Proposals in English (c. 400 words) should be sent (by end of March 2005)
