Free staff training in using ICT to promote reading to Visually Impaired
People
The Society of Chief Librarians - South East Region is offering free training
to Library staff in the South East Region on the use of ICT for Reading
Development, accessing material in alternative formats, specifically aimed at
VIPs. Please distribute this to any staff who may be interested and who can
pass on their skills to other staff. Booking details are outlined below.
This training is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and is being carried out by
The Reading Agency. The training will also include a pack and toolkit and
guidance on training front line staff in the skills and knowledge acquired.

Each training day will cover:
* Reader Development work with vips - practical exercises and
discussion of the issues
* The role of NLB and other vi services
* What the web can offer vips
* Introduction to access technology
* Practical exercises looking at web sites using access
technology
* More practical guidance on planning an activity
