During the recent conferences of the European Sociological Association
in Helsinki (2001) and Murcia (2003) the Research Network on Ageing in
Europe organised very successful paper sessions and discussions. There
was an enormous interest in the ageing topic which resulted in both a
huge number of abstracts and immense interest from audiences.
At Torun, the Ageing in Europe Research Network will again hold paper
sessions that focus on empirical as well as on theoretical and
conceptual aspects of research on ageing. These sessions will on the one
hand continue some of the discussions that started in Helsinki and
Murcia. On the other hand some perspectives have been modified and new
themes have been added.
The RN is now calling for proposals for papers.
According to the overall ESA guideline for paper sessions there will be
two types of papers:
a) papers for oral presentation
b) 'contributed' papers.
'Contributed' papers will be listed in the programme, but only presented
if a paper for oral presentation is rejected, withdrawn or not presented
for other reasons and if there is sufficient time in the session.
Papers will only be accepted for oral presentation if a full paper (not
merely PowerPoint slides or similar material) is provided to the RN
co-ordinators three weeks before the conference (i.e. by August 18,
2005). Submitted papers will be published on the RN website at this
time. If any paper has not been submitted by 18 August, it will be
replaced by a paper by another author that was originally accepted as
'contributed'.
There will be a maximum of 8 paper sessions for each Network, each of 2
hours duration. A maximum of 5 papers will be presented orally in each 2
hour session. Individuals should not be the first author (i.e. the
presenter) of more than one paper at the ESA conference.
Papers should fit into the following thematic areas:
1. Ageing Societies and the Welfare State
2. Generations and Intergenerational Equity
3. Diversity and Inequality
4. Labour Markets, Employment and Retirement
5. Formal and Informal Care
6. Health, Morbidity and Mortality
7. Families, Networks and Intergenerational Relations
8. Quality of Life in Later Life
9. Norms and Values
10. Images of Ageing and Alternative Approaches
Papers with a cross-national, comparative focus and papers by
researchers earlier in their career are particularly to be welcomed. In
case you need additional information (e.g., if you are not sure whether
your paper fits with the theme of a session), please contact the RN
co-ordinators.
Abstract should be sent to [log in to unmask] and not to the Local
Conference Organisers.
The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 15th February, 2005.
Abstracts must include:
- Name(s)affiliation(s) of the author(s)
- Affiliation(s) of the author(s)
- Contact details of presenting author
(postal address, telephone, fax and email address)
- Thematic area of the proposed presentation
- Title of proposed presentation
