I have just emailed the following to 'IF' on BBC 2 tonight about my own
views on this documenatry as follows:-
As being 'neurodiverse' myself with Asperger Syndrome and AD(H)D and
'user-led' researcher and disabled people's human and civil rights
campaigner, educator, peer-advocate and I 'fear' the impact this programme
will have on 'neurodiverse' individuals and reinforces 'stigma' within
Society and 'negative-stereotypes' which will be the 'fuel' that fills
people up with 'prejudices' against neurodiverse disabled people and means
they will suffer more discrimination and basic human and civil rights
abuses.
I have a lot of concerns here about the 'reductionist' medical model of
disability and putting the blame onto the 'individual'
What about the social model?
The 'medical-determinist' theories around AD(H)D and other 'neurodiversity'
impairments are 'flawed' in my opinion. This is'bad-science'
It's not that 'black and white' and could mean a minority 'neurodiverse'
group of individuals could have their basic human and civil rights seriously
violated.
What about 'oppression'? and 'internalised-oppression'??
There was no mention within the programme of the 'postive' 'neurodiverse'
traits within individual(s) and links with 'Creativity', Why?
There was also 'no-one' invited from the 'neurodiverse' disabled people's
movement, especially Developmental Adult Neurodiversity Association(DANDA)
Why?
"Nothing about us, without us"
