Dear All
With apologies for the short notice I would like to organize a
teleconference this Friday 19th November 11:00-12:00. Details of the
teleconference and previous meeting notes can be found in the usual place:
http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/tb-support/phoneconf/
There are a number of developments that hopefully have been communicated to
you via TB-SUPPORT mails and directly from your Tier-2 coordinators. One of
the most pressing issues is upgrading sites to LCG-2-2-0 which has been
available since August. This is now creating some concern within GridPP as
UK sites now represent a significant proportion (50%) of those still running
an old LCG version. We have been told for several months that the next
version is expected "in the next few weeks" but it has not appeared.
Problems encountered suggest that the version will not be formally released
until the New Year. This means we cannot afford to wait. We would like all
remaining sites to upgrade as soon as possible and before 10th December. A
decision to request an upgrade from all sites was made by the GridPP
Deployment Board several weeks ago at the first deployment board meeting:
http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/db/meetings/oct04/index.html
In addition to the LCG/EGEE pressure to upgrade sites, the UK has an
accounting deliverable for December. To meet this we need sites in the UK to
have upgraded to LCG-2-2-0 and to have installed the accounting package RPMs
on the CE by 10th December.
Further to the Deployment Board decision, yesterday the GridPP Project
Management Board agreed that we will need to start taking action against
sites that are not upgrading or taking too long to implement
required/requested RPM updates - for instance the CA RPMS are out of date at
several sites and this is causing criticism at the level of the LCG grid
deployment board. All sites are encouraged to check the test results
published by the monitoring group and pursue fixes as soon as possible:

ort.cgi
GridPP escalation procedures are currently being defined but will likely
start with sites being marked as problematic on the monitoring pages and if
action is not taken removal from the BDII and ultimately the Grid. Clearly
this is not in anyone's interests and part of the reason for our current
situation is lack of clear information on what is required and by when. We
(GridPP) are starting to address this as best we can and welcome your views
on how to improve things. Our focus over the next few weeks will be
producing more accessible and useful information via the website - to cover
support for users, admins together with useful tools and links. Please send
me details of what you need and we will do what we can to meet these needs.
One other area I would like to pursue on Friday is progress on installing
Ganglia. Since requests about two months ago only a small number of sites
have responded. The same is true for the requested security contact
information.
Many thanks for reading this long mail. Please bring questions to the Friday
call and if you can't make it mail me your issues in advance or call me on
the number below to discuss your concerns.
Kind regards,
Jeremy
