medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

> Brice (d. 444) Brice was raised by Martin of Tours but reacted
against that early influence and became a vain, ambitious cleric.
But in time Martin made B. see the light. B. succeeded Martin as
bishop of Tours---but then turned out to be lax and immoral to the
point that he was exiled. But then he repented *again* and came back
to be a model bishop.
a propos of nothing much, the former Priory of Marmoutier just beyond the
walls of Chartres was originally dedicated to St. Martin ("St-Martin-au-Val"),
but at some point in Modren times (after the revolution) was renamed "St.
Brice" (presently in the Faubourg St-Brice).
Does anyone else know of an example of such a "related" renaming of a church?
the surviving church is the oldest above ground structure in (or near)
Chartres, dating from the 11th c. (though it apparently wasn't given to
Marmoutier until 1128).
here are a veiw views, with apologies for the obnoxious pop-up ads :

in spite of some over-enthusiastic "restorations" in the 19th c., it remains
quite a building, and, being more than a bit "out of the way", doesn't get
many visits from the 1,000,000+ touristas who hit the town every year.
a nice, quiet place to hang out.
best from here,
christopher
