medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This is a preliminary announcement for a conference on "Geography and
Saints" to be held at the Agricultural College at Hólar, Northern Iceland.
This college is on the site of the former bishopric founded in 1106, and
the conference is intended to contribute to the celebration of that event.
It is tentatively scheduled for the final week in June, 2006.
The conference will focus on issues of geographical analysis and mapping of
saints' cults. At least one full day will be devoted to technological
issues, but papers on any aspect of the geography of saints' cults may be
submitted. There will also be room for papers by local (Icelandic)
researchers involving archaeology or other technological projects that
relate directly to Hólar or Icelandic saints. A formal call for papers will
go out sometime next summer. In the meantime, those with questions or
suggestions are invited to submit them to Margaret Cormack
