medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
In the case of St Goulven, which is very similar to Goueznou's, the circling of
the land did mark the limits of the parish... in fact, its founding seems to
match the times of great forest clearings that began in the end of the High
Middle Ages
and allowed the foundation of many new settlements. The saint is said to
have prepared the land he received for agriculture, which may be the legendary
translation of that historical event.
