Studs through
the tongue have become a fad among some of the students in the US and
they actually pay someone to do it to them. Ditto for metal through
the lips, cheeks, etc. I think this may have been brough back from
the East (not our Bill)
Indeed not. I would not attempt to walk on hot coals, because I am a
diabetic. One feature of this illness (and you might like to know that
more people die of Diabetes than die of Aids)is neuropathy, that is, a
lack of feeling in the feet. Someone suffering from this might well
walk on hot coals, or indeed broken glass, without feeling any pain;
but severe burns or cuts would none the less be inflicted. Diabetics
are advised to examine their feet daily to make sure they have no pins
or stones stuck in them; one might not always be aware. A diabetic
parishioner of mine had to have his leg amputated recently. His problem
started with a damaged toe which sadly did not give him enough pain to
make him have it seen to in time. I would urge all our members not to
confuse lack of pain with lack of damage, and not to attempt these rash
feats of derring-do. Pain is nature's way of telling us not to walk on
hot coals.
Bill.
