Today (29. November) is the feast day of:
Saturninus (Sernin) (3rd cent.) Saturninus was a missionary in the
Pyrenees, according to tradition sent there from Rome. He became the
first bishop of Toulouse. After refusing to sacrifice to the state
gods he was dragged to death by a bull.
Saturninus (2) (d. c. 309) A Carthaginian priest who came to Rome,
Saturninus was arrested with a deacon named Sisinius during
Maximian's persecution. They were tortured, burned, and then
beheaded.
Radbod (d. 918) Radbod was a grandson of the last non-Christian king
of Frisia. He became a monk and bishop of Utrecht in 900. He was
known for his care for the poor and also as a poet. He moved his see
to Deventer (Flanders) because of Danish attacks, and died there.
Jutta of Heiligenthal (d. c. 1250) Jutta was a Cistercian nun, the
founder and first abbess of the convent of Heiligenthal in Germany.
Frederick of Regensburg (d. 1329) Frederick was an Augustinian
laybrother who worked as a carpenter in the Augustinian community of
Regensburg and won a reputation for great piety. His popular cult
was confirmed in 1909.
A modern beatus: Denis of the Nativity (Pierre Berthelot) (d. 1638)
Pierre Berthelot was a sailor who became a highly regarded pilot and
cartographer to the kings of Portugal and France. He became a
Discalced Carmelite in 1635 in Goa, India, taking the name Dionysius
(Denis). Sent on a mission to the king of Achin, D's party was
ambushed by Muslims and he was killed. D. was beatified in 1900.
