Medieval historian Jean-Claude Schmitt specialises in the study of rituals
during the Middle Ages. Translated works include Ghosts in the Middle Ages:
The Living and the Dead in Medieval Society (University of Chicago Press,
1998) and A History of Young People in the West: Ancient & Medieval Rites of
Passage with co-author Giovanne Levi (Harvard University Press, 1997).
Other publications include La Raison des gestes dans l¹Occident médiéval
(Gallimard, 1990) and Le corps des images: essais sur la culture visuelle au
Moyen Age (Gallimard, 2002).
