Greetings,
The OSX build is not going well. I'm running into a variety of
problems, which are proving more of a barrier than I expected. I'm
having to make changes to automake, and I'm very nervous of doing so
and breaking things on other platforms.
Thus I've moved my checkout to the branch DEV-nxg-20041021-mac-hacks,
so any changes I make there should be isolated. Al and Brad, you're
welcome to check this out, but please don't commit anything there or
else my brain will run out through my ears.
I'm currently stuck on ccdpack, which is showing the _f__xargv problem.
Very bizarre -- it doesn't appear to be actually defined anywhere! I
have proved to myself that Fortran cannot possibly work on the Mac, and
all evidence of it having done so in the past is a product of my
diseased imagination.
I've also discovered (building dipso) that libsnx and libncar appear to
define many of the same symbols. While the Linux linker must have been
happy enough with this, the OSX linker gets very cross indeed, and says
many rude things. That's also made me realise that an earlier fix I've
committed was wrong, but in a way which is probably harmless on other
platforms; hence rather precarious automake changes. If, however, you
see problems with routines dummy_fortran or dummy_c, then look in the
corresponding module's Makefile.am, and remove the dummy file declared
in the _SOURCES variable (don't ask). I'll end up removing these when
I merge this Mac branch back on to the trunk.
Since I also have to start my ADASS poster, I'm not optimistic about
getting the whole thing working before I set off on Saturday. I'll do
my best, though.
See you,
Norman
