Dear Researcher
Please don’t reply to the list!
An ESRC funded project “Online Support for QDA and CAQDAS and Evaluation of
Learning Needs” http://caqdas.soc.surrey.ac.uk/caqdas/onlineqda/qdahome.htm
would like volunteers who are CURRENTLY USING OR HAVE USED software to
assist with their qualitative data analysis. Volunteers need to be UK BASED
FOR STAGES 1 AND 2. Worldwide volunteers can take part in stages 3, 4 and 5.
At this time we require volunteers for stage 2 which will involve a 30
minute interview conducted over the phone and will be tape recorded. We are
interested to hear about your experience of using the software to ensure
the materials we develop address real issues. However, we also hope you
will take part in subsequent stages of the project which are listed below.
The materials produced by the project will address common or core elements
of analysis, basic coding and reporting facilities. There will be a search
mechanism so users can quickly find the answers they need. More advanced
topics in CAQDAS use (merging, teamwork, matrix searching, combining with
quantitative data) will also be covered.
Researchers:
Graham R. Gibbs (Co-Director) and Celia Taylor, University of Huddersfield
Nigel Fielding (Co-Director) and Ann Lewins, University of Surrey
The project consists of 5 stages which are listed below:
Stage 1 – Observation using the software July 2004 – February 2005
We will observe and listen as you use the software. Using ‘think aloud
protocols will help use understand what tools you use and how. It will also
identify the areas where you need help, if at all? If you need any help we
will make this a support session to move you forward in your use of the
software (Must be UK based software user, only a few slots are now left for
Stage 1).
Stage 2 – Interviews August 2004 – December 2004
We are interested in interviewing you about your qualitative data analysis
and either your use of the software to assist with this or your reasons for
deciding to use one package rather than another. (Must be UK based software
user).
Stage 3 – Online questionnaire survey October 2004 – January 2005
The survey will be conducted online to reach a broad range of people using
QDA and CAQDAS and will help us to identify the topics that need to be
included in the learning materials.
Stage 4 – User trial of a prototype version of the learning materials
February 2005
You will be testing a prototype of the learning materials and giving
feedback on the suitability of the delivery style.
Stage 5 – User trial of the full version of the learning materials
July 2005
You will be testing the full version of the learning materials and giving
feedback on the suitability of the topics covered and the delivery style.
If you are willing to be involved in one or a combination of the project
stages please email: [log in to unmask] or phone 01484 47 36 11 and I
will send you further information.
Many thanks
