Colin what are you on about?
I have not displaced the social model I am merely removing its
inconsistencies, in terms of social policy I continue with the proposition
that it is societies responce to what the social model calls impairment, but
what I call difference that creates relative disadvantage.
At the same time I accept that when I go to the Dr to get some part of that
difference that might be caused bysome bodily change altered back to the
status I prefer, then I will defer to body mechanics (which is all that the
medical profession are in reality)
I am trying to be consistent within my own philosophical model that will not
accept erroneos forms of thinking.
Many people here are mistaking what one does every day to survive, or to
better the social condition of oneself or ones peers with questioning the
reserch basis of the underlying model.
If you look at this analogy, It is supposed that Einsteins superior model of
the Universe has superceded Newtons as a more accurate one, however for most
pragmatic purposes the equations of Newton's model still work for
understanding the motor car engine.
If you can't follow this line of argument and still suppose because you
don't think I am chanting the right slogan that I am against the liberation
struggle of those who are externally not internally defined as disabled or
impaired then I think there is no hope for you. You will be wrong.
Incedentally consider the relevance of this argument for people who are non
verbal, let alone those who can't follow the sublteties of the English
language, which allows a greater number of synonyms than most other
languages and therefore does not translate well.
How does one put all this debate into BSL for instance, I personally think
some of the signs are constructed from negative prejudice as much as such
terms as "handicap" et al.
