So I dropped in the latest kernel from Fedora Legacy
(2.4.20-30.7.legacy) and the requisite modutils and tried again.
Slightly more success this time, but still nothing that could be
described as working:
- I can now insmod e1000 without error
- I can assign a static IP address
- ifconfig eth0 will report this IP back
However, any attempt to actually *use* the device fails:
- Pinging any IP other than the interface itself fails with
"Destination Host Unreachable"
- DHCP won't acquire an IP
It seems that there's little improvement to be seen between 2.4.20-28.7
and 2.4.20-30.7, as this is the same result as we saw in Durham last
week. I'm going to try a reinstall and hand-build a kernel
(2.4.27?).....
