Hi,
On the point of the UI machines, these were bought (at the instigation of
the Tier-2 Board) with the idea that we have standard front-ends to make
overall problem tracking and debugging easier. While there is no intention
that the current CE/SE etc be switched-off straight away, it would be
appropriate and sensible to plan for a switch-over to the new machines at a
pace set by the local sites. If this poses practical problems, we should air
them; it is meant to be a help, not a hindrance!
I think we should view this as the first meeting of the TB and the
opportunity to set-up the schedule of future meetings. The chair of the TB
is defined in the MoU we signed.
   Best wishes,
   Roger

Dear Mike,

let me go through your points

(a) Which board are you talking about?
There are management board people and system managers and these are
the people who have been contacted either by me or by roger jones.
There are two mailing lists: this one and a northgrid-sysadmin which I
created to contact system managers, unluckily system managers answer
more easily when I send private emails which on one side I
understand but it bothers me because they should think in terms of
northgrid and not in terms of one site. Perhaps this is a problem with
not having been told exactly what northgrid means.

(b) I gave a talk on this last week part of which was concerning the
     technical issues the sites have.

(c) They are machines as the rest of the machines dedicated to LCG they
are no different from the equipement already put on the grid. The only
difference is that they have been bought to be services machines i.e.
CE SE LCFG and UI. All these services are already in place in all the
sites so the solution is to use them for other services.

(d) I'm glad you raised the point about having a structure. I guess the
first point is I'm the technical coordinator and they should refer to
me when they have a problem as the local people should do already.
Technical board meetings organisation is definitely one of my tasks.
Up to now there wasn't really a need since 3 out 4 sites have been up
and running for months and most of the problems had a local solution
and didn't need a collective decision.

Said that I think it's a good idea to meet up and take these decisions,
it's about time to give shape to NorthGrid and certainly it will help me
very much, as technical coordinator.

Looking forward to see you.

cheers
alessandra
