The Learning Lab in collaboration with the Centre for Learning & Teaching at the University of Wolverhampton is pleased to announce regular monthly seminars on a range of hot topics.

Improving e-Learning: People, the killer app.: Thursday 14th October 2004
The theory & practice of learning object repositories: Wednesday 24th November 2004
Audio: adding a powerful dimension to e-Learning: Wednesday 8th December 2004
e-Portfolios: why the interest?: Wednesday 19th January 2005
Futures thinking and innovation: Wednesday 9th February 2005

ABOUT THE SEMINARS
Each one-day seminar will feature up to four presentations on the core subject and will include plenty of opportunities for questions and discussion. Some seminars will also include hands-on sessions where delegates can test out relevant technologies.

LOCATION AND COST
All seminars will take place at the Learning Lab which is located in Telford, Shropshire, a few minutes from main rail and motorway networks. Seminars are offered at a cost of just £60 per person per day, which is inclusive of refreshments and lunch.

Seminar places are limited to the first 25 bookings received to maximise interaction. To book please visit the Learning Lab website to either print out a fax-back form or to book online.

THE SEMINARS

Improving e-Learning: People, the killer app.
DATE: Thursday 14th October 2004
OVERVIEW: The successful introduction of e-Learning to an organisation depends entirely upon the enthusiasm and buy-in of the staff implementing and using it. Our three presenters will look at change management and talent management from an e-Learning perspective, the dos and don'ts of rolling out e-learning, how to optimise your e-learning solution when it becomes operational, and how to further improve e-Learning once the investment has been made. The day will include time for questions and discussion.

The theory & practice of learning object repositories
DATE: Wednesday 24th November 2004
OVERVIEW: This seminar will explore learning object repositories and examine how they can be utilised to enhance the design and delivery of e-Learning. The afternoon session will be hands-on in the Learning Lab where there will be opportunities to explore Scran Online, Channel 4's Clipbank and Intrallect's IntraLibrary

Audio: adding a powerful dimension to e-Learning
DATE: Wednesday 8th December 2004
OVERVIEW: e-Learning gives us the opportunity to use a variety of additional media to enhance the learning experience. This seminar focuses on how audio can be used to great creative effect to add value to e-Learning. The morning session will address the theory and practice of current uses of audio in e-Learning, with an afternoon hands-on session in the Learning Lab where products will be available to try out.

e-Portfolios: why the interest?
DATE: Wednesday 19th January 2005
OVERVIEW: e-Portfolios have recently emerged as the next big thing. UK education, UK Government and the European Parliament are all increasingly interested in the potential of e-Portfolios for supporting lifelong learning and enhancing employment opportunities. This seminar will review four e-Portfolio developments
SPEAKERS: Patrick Craven, Assistant Director - e-Assessment, OCR Examinations; Gillian Whitehouse, Assessment Development Director, Edexcel; Shane Sutherland, e-Learning Mentor, University of Wolverhampton; Jonathan Evans, Senior Business Consultant - Managed Learning Environments, FD Learning.

Futures thinking and innovation
DATE: Wednesday 9th February 2005
OVERVIEW: A one-day workshop to explore ideas and thinking about how we prepare for the future in a rapidly changing world. Presented by Chris Yapp, a frequent speaker and writer on the emerging information society, particularly in the areas of lifelong learning, e-government, social exclusion and the creative Industries. His speaking engagements have included British Council, World Bank and UN conferences. Among his writing he has written pamphlets for the IPPR and the Institute of Contemporary Arts. He contributed to the FT book, "Masters of the Wired World". Chris has been in the IT Industry since 1980 in Honeywell, ICL and HP in a variety of roles and is currently Head of Public Sector Innovation at Microsoft UK.
