ABSTRACT
Alex Scott Samuel will be familiar to many of those who are on equity-related list serves for his often outspoken views on the role of government in promoting health and addressing health inequality. He is interested in discussing with Australian health practitioners their views on the political economy of health. The seminar will consist of a brief presentation by Alex, commentary by a number of well known public health practitioners and then open for debate. The debate will be moderated by Don Nutbeam.
BIOGRAPHY
Alex Scott-Samuel graduated in medicine at the University of Liverpool in 1971. From 1978-94 he was Consultant in Public Health with Liverpool Health Authority. Since 1994 he has been Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Liverpool University. He is Director of Liverpool Public Health Observatory, and also of EQUAL (the Equity in Health Research and Development Unit). His chief research interests are in health inequalities, health impact assessment, 'positive' health, and relationships between health and the arts.
